An Introduction to Delta 8

Cannabis is still considered to be a controlled substance by the U.S. Federal Government, and is listed as a Schedule I controlled drug by the DEA. Delta 8 comes from the hemp plant and is derived from CBD, and after the 2018 Farm Bill is Federally legal. It is also legal in most states.

What is Delta 8?

Delta 8 is a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in the cannabis plant. It’s similar to the more well-known Delta 9 THC, but with a few key differences. For starters, Delta 8 is less psychoactive than Delta 9. That means it won’t give you the “high” that is typically associated with marijuana. However, Delta 8 still provides many of the same therapeutic benefits — such as pain relief, stress reduction, and appetite stimulation.

How is Delta 8 different from Delta 9 THC?

The main difference between Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC is in their chemical structure. Both molecules are very similar, but Delta 8 has a double bond in the 8th position while Delta 9 has a double bond in the 9th position. This small difference gives Delta 8 a more stable molecular structure, which makes it less psychoactive than Delta 9.

Further, delta 8 is an isomer of CBD which comes from the hemp plant, while delta 9 is an isomer of THC which comes directly from the cannabis plant. What this means is that delta 8 and delta 9 share the same chemical formula (C21H30O2), but they have a different arrangement of atoms. This difference in atomic structure gives each molecule different properties.

What are the benefits of Delta 8?

Delta 8 provides many of the same therapeutic benefits as Delta 9 THC, but without the psychoactive effects. That means you can enjoy the benefits of cannabis without feeling high. Some of the potential benefits of Delta 8 include:

– Pain relief

– Stress reduction

– Appetite stimulation

– Anxiety relief

– Nausea relief

-Less paranoia when compared to Delta 9 THC

Is Delta 8 Legal?
